Hugh Sexey's entered two mixed Year 7 and year 8 girls team for this festival. It was great to be able to take everyone who has been working really hard in training over the weeks, to reward them with the chance to experience playing rugby against other local schools in Somerset.
What was really pleasing to see was that only 3 Hugh Sexey girls play weekly for local clubs -the rest of them don't play club rugby. For majority of these girls it was actually their first ever rugby match and they all did superbly.
Hugh Sexey Wolves was led by Aisling Kelway and Hugh Sexey Warriors was led by Hannah Gazzard; both girls play rugby for Winscombe RFC and they were both outstanding in leading their teams on the day.
The girls got to play 5 games; they all loved the experience and had great fun. As a result some of our players would now like to start playing more rugby - which is great to hear.
Well done to everyone involved, especially to the players of the matches: Rosa Roberts for her strong running skills, and Melissa Neill for her ferocious tackling and for scoring some great tries too.
It was a lovely afternoon of rugby - well done to all the local schools which participated. It is great to see girls' rugby improving massively year after year.
