Hugh Sexey's was again drawn to play an away fixture for Round 2 of the ESFA Nationals, this time playing away to Kings Hall in Taunton. We knew this would be a tough fixture as Kings Hall have a great sporting reputation, and the school has outstanding sports facilities.
Hugh Sexey's started the first half very brightly, immediately applying pressure on Kings Hall's goal keeper, who was kept very busy saving all the shots that were fired at her. Eventually our goal scoring 'machine' Izzy Cook found a way to beat the keeper, dribbling round her and slotting the ball home to put Hugh Sexey's in the lead. Kings Hall fought their way back into the game, and had some chances to level the score, only to be denied by our great defending trio: Evie Clements, Harriet Griffiths, and Evie Jones.
Hugh Sexey's started to play passing football which caught Kings Hall off guard. A lovely ball played by Jessie Woodcock through the middle, coupled with Jemima Thurling pressurising their defenders resulted in an own goal. The score at half time was 2-0.
In the second half Hugh Sexey's gave debuts to Libby Slater, Lowenna Jackson-Voyzey and Ella Woodcock; all did really well and proved to be great additions to the school team. Hugh Sexey's got the final say when Jessie Woodcock smashed the ball home to wrap up the game; the final score was 3-0 to us.
Both teams played some exciting football, which was pleasing to see. All our girls were fantastic and they thoroughly deserved the win. Hugh Sexey's are now through the next round where they face a very tough game against Gordano.
Player of the match was Harriet Griffiths. Kings Hall kindly gave our players a lovely snack to eat on the way home, which they all enjoyed. Many thanks to Kings Hall for being great hosts, and for looking after us.
