Welcome to New Staff

Alexandra Waring

Teacher of Science

Starting in January 2016

I studied Forensic Science at Staffordshire University because of my love for Science and being able to apply it in the real world.  However I missed the South West and so I came back to study my PGCE in Chemistry at the University of Bristol.  I spent my NQT year teaching at the Vale of Berkeley School in Gloucestershire where I taught Science at KS3 and 4 and Maths to KS3.  As I wanted to extend my abilities I moved to St Katherine’s in Pill where they had a sixth form and I taught Science to KS3-5 but also Maths and Health & Social Care.  Keen to challenge myself further I then moved to The King Alfred School where I took up the post of Assistant Head of Science.

I am passionate about making Science accessible to all and encouraging the younger students to become excited and enthused about the subject making sure they are well established before they move onto their next school.

In my career I have also volunteered as a First Responder and worked for a fire work company firing shows.  Both jobs I did around my teaching and I really enjoyed the challenge they brought.  I spend most of my free time with my two Dalmatians and enjoy the long walks they take me on.  I love reading and spending time with friends and family.

I am really looking forward to joining Hugh Sexey Middle School and being challenged in new ways.
