WOW Week- Chepstow Castle

Wow Week Update: Wednesday 15 June - Trip to Chepstow Castle

Today, Year 7 pupils travelled to Chepstow Castle in Wales, to visit the Medieval Fayre and Castle.  Some of the pork pies and potage that they pupils made in their workshops earlier in the week were served.  Pupils visited a Medieval Fayre, hosted by PGCE trainees from UWE, where they were able to participate in active learning, through making medieval crafts, including felting, metal work, leather stamping, pottery and also has a 'go' at medieval sporting activity such as crossbow shooting, trebuchet launching, and quoits.  They also toured the castle which dates back, in parts, to the reign of William the Conqueror.  As they toured the castle they met 'Living History Actors', and they were able to ask them questions about what life would have been like for them when they lived at the castle.  We were very lucky about the weather with only a few showers falling during our lunch break (where we were able to take cover under the trees).  The pupils were beautifully behaved, fully engaged, and I'm sure gained a great deal from the experience
