Many congratulations to the year 5 Cricket team who have qualified for the Somerset finals after winning the Mendip games event. The team of 8 played Kwik cricket against Elmhurst A and B and Baltonsborough. They secured victories against all of the sides, and demonstrated some fine fielding and batting skills throughout the afternoon. This is a tribute to the hard work they have put into cricket practice and also the time they have invested into cricket outside of school. All of the players involved played very well with Will Creaser showing fine form with the bat. He hit a number of strong 6s and 4s and also proved to be a real team player by getting his batting partner into the game regularly. Douglas Sharp, Tom Bean and Oliver Richards all enjoyed commanding games and proved to be good all rounders with a potent combination of accurate bowling, steady batting and eager fielding. Charlie Rant and Archie Stamp shared the wicket keeping responsibilities and both made a number of impressive catches. William Bougourd and Kenny Poole completed the side and were equally effective with batting and bowling. The Hugh Sexey team were a very impressive unit and it was plasing to see them play with such enthusiasm and respect to the game of cricket.
Mr Andrew Skidmore from Somerset will be providing additional coaching to the year 5 students after school on a Monday for the rest of the summer term. Any players interested in representing the side should come to these practices and continue to train on Tuesday lunchtimes.
