Year 7 Visits to Hinkley B Power Station

On Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th of November, sixty Year 7 pupils had the opportunity to travel to Hinkley Point B to learn about the Nuclear Energy sector.  The visit combines learning and theory from both Humanities and Science. The pupil were able to see the reactors from the viewing gallery and even got to observe the control room.  They all commented on how 'old-school' it seems now.  The pupils learned how nuclear energy is a low-carbon option for electricity generation and how safe and highly regulated the industry is.  It is an exciting time on site, as the construction of Hinkley Point C is well underway.  The pupils were very interested in the the many job opportunities they new power station is and will create in our local area.
