Year 8 Football: the Somerset Cup.

On Thursday the 2nd of December Hugh Sexeys Year 8 Football Team travelled to Wellsway School in the 2nd round of the Somerset cup.

Hugh Sexey got off to the perfect start with George scoring a great goal after dribbling past 3 defenders and calmly placing the ball into the corner. The team then built on this lead as Finn played a magnificent defence-splitting through ball to George who was brought down in the box and a penalty was awarded.  Declan stepped up to take it and slotted the ball into the back of the net to make the score line 2-0. Wellsway then woke up and forced some top saves from our goalkeeper Josh as well as some last ditch tackles from our defenders Jack, Harry, Charlie and Toby.  Hugh Sexey managed to weather the storm and go into half time at 2-0.

Hugh Sexey started the second half like they did the first when Alfie was played through and his shot trickled just over line to put the team 3-0 up. Wellsway then pulled one back to give them a lifeline in the game.  Our team reacted brilliantly to conceding when George was played through, and scored an outrageous lobbed goal from 25 yards to reclaim Hugh Sexey's 3 goal advantage. Credit to Wellsway their heads never dropped; they kept going and pulled another goal back to make the score line 4-2 but after a well worked corner George tapped the ball in to complete his hat trick to put Hugh Sexey 5-2 up. Wellsway then went all out attack to try and salvage something from the game and managed to score twice in 5 minutes to set up a nervy final couple of minutes for Hugh Sexey but the team managed to see the game out and win a thrilling match 5-4 to progress into the next round of the Cup.
