Well done to the year 8 boys rugby team who dug in to get a deserved victory against a determined and physical Wells team. Hugh Sexey made the perfect start. Claiming possession on from the kickoff, Nathan spotted an overlap on the blind side and fed Oliver who scampered down the wing and dived for the corner. Hugh Sexey then made ground after direct carries from Ollie, George and James created space out wide. The ball was fed by Ethan to Max and he used great footwork to beat the onrushing defence. We then became guilty of trying to play rugby in areas of the park when perhaps on reflection we should have secured the ball a bit better. It was great to see us try and move the ball, with Charlie, Evan, Tobias and Jack all having a good go and breaking down the resolute defence. Wells started to get a foot hold and 2 try’s either side of half time made for a tense finish. Will started to fire from scrum half with game management that was similar to Faf De Klerk. After some quick rucks Evan worked around the short side and his hard, short run tied in defenders and allowed Hugo to drift into the space created by his crafty dummy line. Hugo then made excellent ground and after great work the ball was offloaded to Ollie who crashed over for the winning score.
It was a great team effort.
