Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Congratulation and well done to Alex Lemin (8AMW) who swam for Burnham on Sea at the recent county trails on 26th and 27th January. Alex set two personal bests in the 200m Individual medley 2:49:68 and 100m Breaststroke 1:32:40. Keep up the good work and the dedicated training regime.
Four Year 8 students took part in a Cyberfirst Girls competition run by GCHQ.
Cassie, Evie, Freya and Rachel took whatever opportunities were available to them to go online for the week of the competition. They answered questions on cryptography, cyber security, logic, coding and networking.
Whilst not one of the select few teams to make it to the final in Scotland, all four are looking take things further by attending a Cyberfirst Defender course. They have been invited to attend following their participation in the competition.
Huish Episcopi 4
Hugh Sexey Middle School 6
What a football match this was! A truly superb and nail biting match from two very good teams.
Playing on Huish Episcopi 4g pitch, Hugh Sexey's started the match brightly. We kept Huish in their half, putting their goal keeper under lots of pressure. Some great work from our midfield trio Callow, Poole, and Creaser enabled Jacob Aberdeen to slot home the first goal of the afternoon.
Huish then came back strongly, after some defending errors from us, and scored two quick goals to put them 2-1 up.
After some time, and some great football played by both teams, Huish's striker capitalised on another great pass to run through and score again.
Half time score: Huish 3 Hugh Sexey's 1.
At half time we had an inspirational team talk; we all spoke about how we could turn things around, and as a group we made some tactical changes. All credit to Thelonious Jagger who moved to centre back, enabling us to change to 4-4-2 formation.
Immediately in the second half we were able to put pressure on Huish and it wasn't long before our goal machine Jacob Aberdeen scored his second of the game slotting the ball home. The lads were now confident, relaxed, and believed they could score more goals and actually win this game. Luc Griffiths then scored a brilliant solo goal to level the game 3-3.
Hugh Sexey's were now rampant- moving the ball all over the pitch and putting Huish under immense pressure. Luc Griffiths then scored his second of the day to put Hugh Sexey's 4-3 up.
Huish had the next say and scored to make the game level 4-4.
It was now or never - with 10 minutes to go and the game possibly heading towards penalties, Ben Crook smashed the ball home to make it 5-4. Straight after scoring he set up Jacob Aberdeen who scored, to complete his hat trick.
Wow, what a game - credit to all the lads; after being 3-1 down at half time, they kept their heads and believed in each other.
Special mention to Thomas Bean who stepped in once again as our as goal keeper. He was under immense pressure all game, but he played superbly, particularly in the second half, making numerous great saves to keep us in the game.
Next match we play Millfield at Home - we are all looking forward to this one.
Mr Waterfield
Our U12's girls were drawn Away to Somervale (Radstock) for the second round of the Somerset Cup.
On the journey down to Somervale, the girls were very excited and couldn't wait to play this match.
Hugh Sexey's took the kick off and immediately started to cause problems for Somervale, as the girls were passing and moving the ball around the pitch superbly.
All the goals then started to come in, and from then on we just kept putting the ball in the back of the net. A truly superb start to the U12s Cup campaign; they all played as a team. Huge credit to the Somervale girls for never giving up.
Special mentions must go to our goal scorers, named below, who were on top shooting form and to Keepers Edie Pargeter and Aida Rothery for keeping a clean sheet. Lastly Alice Steckler was a rock at the back putting in a brilliant defence display.
Goals scorers -
Ella Saxon x3
Jemima Seagrove x2
Maddy Durrant x 5
Freya Wills x2
Olivia Fuller x3
Well Done Girls. Next round we play Millfield at home; date to be confirmed. This will be a good match to watch.
A big well done to our Year 5&6 runners who braved the cold and sleet to run in exceptionally muddy conditions at Downside School in Stratton-on-the-Fosse. Runners and parents alike were struggling to stay on two feet.
We had a near clean sweep of runners from Hugh Sexey managing to improve their placings since they last raced. Charlie also achieved his first top five finish, with a really strong push over the final two hundred metres.
It is a testament to those who organise these cross country events that 340 children from over 20 schools took part on such an inclement and wintry day.
Our girls team remain consistent having achieved fifth in each of the first three races this season. Our boys team continue to vie for a top three place at the end of the season by coming second in this race but beating Millfield for the first time this season.
